This truly unique visitor experience captures the story of how Foynes became one of the great aviation hubs of the world between 1937-1945.

Walk in the footsteps of JF Kennedy, Bob Hope, Eleanor Roosevelt & many other dignitaries, movie stars & refugees who landed at Foynes.

Whether your interest lies in the rich maritime history of the River Shannon and the port of Foynes, or the pioneering days of aviation and passenger travel across the North Atlantic, our museum is sure to delight and intrigue.

The museum maintains and develops its collection by acquiring, holding in trust, interpreting, and preserving historically significant aeronautical and nautical objects for exhibitions, scholarly research and lifelong learning programmes.

Our Maureen O’Hara exhibition alongside our Foynes-Hollywood Connection exhibition (thanks to the generosity of Maureen O’Hara’s grandson Conor Beau Fitzsimons) offer an extensive collection of the Hollywood legend’s personal belongings. Maureen O’Hara herself was a dedicated patron of the museum from 1989 until her death in 2015.

Did you know too that the world-famous drink – Irish Coffee – was invented in Foynes on a winters evening in 1943? Within our Irish Coffee Centre, we tell you the tale of that eventful night.
